Great job Kent! I really like the green!

As a follow up - I added the survey for an additional feedback option. Kind of fun really. One response so far. I share them all at each meeting or weekly in the webCT discussions...

When I view your site in my tiny laptop using Firefox, the wrappers look good. No horizontal scroll bars, which is key! The wrappers really suck, don't they? Not a big fan, myself.

I changed the width to accommodate the wrapper issue. I would like to point out that I use Firefox and the site looks different in terms of the header and catalogue when i check it in IE7 on my son's computer. Neither looks bad - but the catalog isn't very nice in IE7. The "Catalog Home", "Advanced Search" etc are below the Koha Classic logo in IE7, not so with Firefox. Something to think about anyhow...

Nikki,
I agree that we should use Gallery and I added two of my own photos to the collection. I see that Sara already added it to the menu as Images and I know that she has mentioned that she likes gallery better too in our chats.

Thanks Sara,

You did a great job!! I'm plugging away at the Gov Docs issue for ePrints. I have to see if I can download the public domain docs to my desktop so I can load them to ePrints. Otherwise I can just give the link if my access to Boston College's OPAC will let me. BC is a national Gov Docs repository, and these docs are freely open to the public, so I should be able to find a way.

Also, I wonder if Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences makes the ornithology library's audio recordings of bird sounds publically available. It is a NY State publicly funded Land-Grant institution, so I'm thinking if the library is open for public access, we might be able to post some live audio file links. That would be cool! And what about images of birds to complement their calls? I'll check it out if you guys like the idea?

On the topic of open archives: we might want to consider requiring authentication to ePrints if we do not find enough open access items. It sounds like we can either require auth to all items or none, not by item -- the answer to that quesiton...
<!--more-->
As you see from my other posts:

I got a reply on our blog about URL links via MARC field 856 using the $a tag; see attached.

I made the change to all our "website" item type MARC records. If it works we can delete the URL from "Physical Description" that was used as a work around. As the reply says, ANY MARC field can be set up as a link!!:)

I Wrote Todd: I did this but have not yet seen changes in display. Do you think this will update with a system refresh after an hour?

Thanks,
Mike

Koha 856 field URL display?

… any subfield in the Koha system can be a clickable link, you set it up in the frameworks area. By default 856 $a should be clickable. Just add http://somewebsite.com into 856$a and it will display to the user as a link. Hope that helps. --Joshua Ferraro

Todd had made a Discussion post to the class that there is an authentication function available for ePrints, but we would have to restrict the entire ePrints repository via logons, rather than controlling access to specific items:

"There is a password function to prevent downloads from EPrints. If you are having difficulties finding materials that aren't copyrighted you can always use this function so the files are not open to the public. A closed repository for this assignment is acceptable.

We use this for our participatory librarianship repository: http://repository.syr.edu/ .

Sara,
I agree with your suggestion about using a seperate blog within Joomla. It will allow navigation within our library site to be more consistent. Great idea!!

Sara, I really like this idea. Yes, Joomla definitely has a blog function, but it seems more appropriate for current site topics than an ongoing progress report (at least to me).
