This project was a lot more fun than I had anticipated. Working with three other people with different schedules is always a challenge, but I think we pulled it off well with weekly meetings in Kent’s Meebo room and via email.
Joomla: The most difficult aspect of this was trying to learn the whole thing without dumping the whole site. It was hard to know who had changed what and avoiding ruining someone’s trial was always a fear. I had a hard time getting into the options, but once I could see us moving towards a specific place it became much easier. Overall, I was very pleased with the options and the look we ended up with.
Koha: This package was really great to create a library catalog in – especially because of the “Add MARC” option. Some of records had to be manually created, but the feature of looking items up moved everything along far more smoothly then I had figured.
LibLime: This was mostly a stiff interface to present our catalog. I am sure it was because the service was free through school – but I would have liked to have more say into the appearance then we did.
WordPress: Since I have the most experience with this package – of course I was biased in thinking it was the most intuitive. I have a lot fun in WordPress and use it for many of my other library’s special programs. The set-up is very easy and I had fun building the Development Blog and Conversations. I think keeping track of what we did as we did it was very helpful!
TikiWiki: This was a lot of fun once we decided how to use it in a public setting. I was having trouble thinking of a way to include it within an ecological context, but it seemed to fall in naturally.
Survey Monkey: I added this application in response to fellow students looking for a way to provide more feedback. It is fun, free, and presents itself well.
Gallery and E-Prints: I did not have much involvement in these aspects of our site and so do not feel qualified to comment.
