My tasks so far have been to build a list of books and documentaries and add their records to our catalog. I was getting hung up on including every piece of information on the items, even though I do not have them in front of me. Then I remembered Todd said he wasn’t as concerned with the records as the library itself – so I relaxed. I also searched for organizations that would be useful in ecological situations. These have added to this blog, but will most likely not remain here as they should be on the site itself.
My main objectives for the next two weeks are to run through a Joomla tutorial to get a better understanding of the functionality, try to organize the site a little, change all LC records to DDC format, and build a links tab for all of the organizations we have found.
I am thinking this blog should be linked to the site as a “How did we get here?” resource – then have a regular blog about hot topics in the news on the site itself. I am not sure, but I believe Joomla has a blog application which could be used for that purpose.
Sara, I really like this idea. Yes, Joomla definitely has a blog function, but it seems more appropriate for current site topics than an ongoing progress report (at least to me).
Sara,
I agree with your suggestion about using a seperate blog within Joomla. It will allow navigation within our library site to be more consistent. Great idea!!
