My progress to date

19 03 2008

My focus (as far as resource-gathering goes) has been on educational websites and more obscure ecology/conservation organizations (particularly those with a strong educational imperative). It has been a challenge to catalog these, but I think I have found a way to download MARC records from libraries that have already cataloged these resources, and then modify those records to suit our purposes. One problem I am currently trying to solve: I would like (if possible) for the records associated with these items to be clickable from within the catalog. I’m currently investigating Koha forums to see if I can find any guidance on this subject. I’ll also be cleaning up already-entered records to more closely conform to our agreed-upon standards.

Just a few days ago, I set up a chat reference function through Meebo and installed it on the site.

My work for the next week (aside from finishing up cataloging items): I will be mining the GEM database for lesson plan documents or other items that are copyright free and can be uploaded to Eprints. I’m also checking with Flickr contacts to see about permission to use their nature photography in our image gallery (and gathering Creative Commons use/attribute items as I do this).
